Wisconsin Monthly Economic Update

From the Wisconsin Department of Revenue – September issue. The regular publication of Economic Forecast reports (latest here) and the innovation of monthly updates contrasts strongly with the near economic news blackout in the second Scott Walker administration (discussed here). DoR has also added a lot more data visualizations, here.

Here’s a sectoral look at Wisconsin employment, relative to 2020M02.

Hats off to Tony Evers or whoever initiated the change. I bought two brands of Wisconsin cheese and even bought some overly pricey pink lemonade from Wisconsin (or at least the lemonade is processed there). That’s all this small fry down south can do at the moment.

It’s totally unsurprising to me they have quite good vaccine rates. But even amongst a group of highly cerebral people, it shows you even then you still have some kookballs wandering around. They’ve still done a very admirable job, which probably explains why American officials are trying to gather and glean everything they can from there. If there’s a super-sharp/effective way of handling this respiratory virus, it’s a good bet the Israelis are doing it.

We’ll have to check with Barkley Junior later to find out if what killed Shoulian “came from a lab”. I got this weird feeling Barkley’s gonna tell us he has a mole in the CIA who knows which lab scientist killed Shoulian. Stay tuned……

      Mose,

Never heard of the guy. No idea about anything about him. Sorry not to fulfill your fantasy on this one.

That actually is semi-crushing for my late Wednesday afternoon. This may have been my big comedy relief for the day if you had shared something from you and Ignatius’ spy network. Just for my own satisfaction, would you double-check with Mr. Bean or Johnny English and see what their clandestine network is saying???

Was sad to hear about Norm Macdonald passing away. I was/am a Letterman fan, roughly from the age of 9, and Macdonald reminded me a lot of Letterman as far as his style of comedy, whether that was intentional facsimile of comedy style or not. The reality is most comedians have a thread of irreverence, but with Letterman and Norm Macdonald, Ernie Kovacs, I’m sure you could name some more, the irreverence always came across as more “hardcore”, for lack of a better word. Whether it was just their voice or something, I don’t know.

The one show I saw Macdonald on I didn’t like was when he had Gilbert Gottfried (who ironically I also like a lot) on as a guest on his podcast or YT show. I just thought they did “take it too far” on the grossness and the shock value stuff. And as Menzie will probably testify, it takes a lot to gross me out and offend me, and somehow the two of them managed it on that specific episode of the show. I thought he nailed Bob Done, nailed Burt Reynolds, and none of his O.J. Jokes offended me, I thought they were rather truthful if anything.

I found this article to be mildly worrying, maybe even troublesome. I know all of Menzie’s and Professor Hamilton’s readers consider themselves a well-read group who like to stay ahead of the curve. In that spirit, I share this with the gentle reader:

My final “take” from this, is that if you know an older person and care about an older person or person with a weak immune system in a deep way, your best bet in the end is a good quality mask, and make sure it has the metal strip or something similar at the top of the mask, to shape down on the top of your nose for a secure seal. This is a tough road, but if we use our smarts we can get through all of this nonsense. There has to be a light at the end of the tunnel somewhere, and as goofy as it may sound, I don’t think an occasional prayer hurts either.
