    Or, if you want to make some real money, go apply for a job as an equity analyst with Jason Stevens over at Morningstar research in Chicago.
    Being an equity or commodity research analyst for a investment bank or research group has some advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side, you can make some real money after a few years. On the minus side, the hours are long, and the quality of analysis is better at some banks than others. The research is all live and relevant: it’s about understanding the economy with an eye to financial performance. It’s economics with people putting money on your opinion.
    In all, I think being an equity/commodity analyst is an under-rated profession. A lot of good and quirky thinkers are in the business.
