Trump can’t even do that right.

I’m waiting to see if Ontario cuts off electricity…Should do wonders for US GDP and inflation prospects. Figure from 2022.

Now, imagine the same sort of map, with Mexico included, for the factory sector. Another for tourism, which while not subject to tariffs, is subject to business cycles and sentiment. Another for metals.
North America is one big economy, with some borders. The New York/Ontario border has not been much more consequential than the New York/New Jersey border, nor should it be. Today, the border woth Ontario is much more consequential, and that ain’t good.
Warwick McKIbben’s model has inflation rising by about 1% because of these tariffs!
Gas in Madison WI was $2,73 on Sunday and is now $2.99 – Hey I thought Trump was going to lower gas prices and that was going to allow the U.S. economy to achieve 3% GDP?? Also interesting to see Peter Navarro – a convicted felon – explain how these tariffs are good for consumers and we will all just have to maybe go into a recession to make America Great Again.
I think Newt Gingrich said that there would be a 2-3 year “adjustment period” before the U.S. achieves self-sufficiency and wages can start to rise again. We must be patient, dear comrade, for our Orange Leader to bring us into the promised lands.
Speaking of browbeating:

Freedom of speech? No thank you, says the felon-in-chief.
Apparently republicans are ok with recessions as long as you tell people that is what you are going to do. Recessions that occur without intent are unacceptable. Intentionally tanking the economy is quite all right. I can only guess this is what rick stryker teaches at his maga economics program.
Trump tweeted today: “Please explain to Governor Trudeau, of Canada, that when he puts on a retaliatory tariff on the U.S., our reciprocal tariff will immediately increase by a like amount!”
Yes, the President of the United States has taken to calling the leader of Canada, our supposed ally, governor of our 51st state. We have the President of the United States taunting other world leaders with juvenile insults like a 9-year-old. Tell me that Trump isn’t seriously mentally ill. Really, he’s mentally incapacitated.
And not to be outdone, dog killer Kristi Noem traveled to Derby Line, Vermont where there is an official line on the floor dividing the US from Canada. Noem then skipped back and forth across the line while chanting:
“USA Number 1”
“51st State”
“USA Number 1”
“51st State”
“USA Number 1”
“51st State”
She did this little performance for the benefit of appalled Canadian citizens standing there.
Just amazing. This is the leader of Homeland Security who is supposed to be coordinating with Canadian authorities on border security by deliberating insulting them. Do these folks really think they can go it alone in the world with no allies?

Picked up gasoline Sunday or Monday (pretty sure it was Monday) $2.45. Roughly 24 hours later, the dominant price in my area is $2.79.
How does the orange bastard “walk back” the tariffs? With his extreme arrogance and his base’s extreme functional illiteracy, He’s going to have a hell of a time walking this back. When it FULLY hits the markets it’s a disaster in the making. And then he blames it on who?? A Mexican tomato picker?? And this assumes Measles or bird flu or BOTH don’t hit with a demolished CDC staff.
