Comment policy

Econbrowser has always welcomed a wide range of opinions and spirited discussion from commenters, and will continue to do so. To preserve civility of the discussion, we have two rules. First, comments referring to someone’s racial or ethnic characteristics will not be published. Second, we will block comments that are pure insults with no intellectual arguments.

As Lincoln said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Applies maybe to blogs as well, eh? With honorable mention to Gresham’s Law.

This policy is just the kind of idiocy one should expect from a bunch of flacking Earthlings. Bipedal air-breathers are the scum of the galaxy.

this policy is welcome, but i certainly challenge both Prof. Chinn and Prof. Hamilton to expand the second criteria “block comments that are pure insults with no intellectual arguments.” to include comments with no intellectual arguments, regardless of insult or not. there are some comments on this site which are not intellectually honest, intentionally, and should be treated in the same manner as a lack of civility as well. if you truly want this site to be educational and civil, intentionally misleading and/or false commentary needs to be challenged as uncivil. i welcome both commenters as well as hosts to point out those statements when they occur.

Baffled, I agree with your sentiments, “there are some comments on this site which are not intellectually honest, intentionally, and should be treated in the same manner as a lack of civility as well. ” Read through the latest PR Deaths article set of comments and ID those falling into this category.
