On Debt Default

Full quote of Donald Trump regarding default (CNBC):

“Well, you might as well do it now because you’ll do it later because we have to save this country. Our country is dying. Our country is being destroyed by stupid people, by very stupid people.”

Can’t disagree with the second third sentence. First sentence is in line with the level of economic analysis embodied in the trade war of 2018-, the Tax Cut and Jobs Act, and the idea of drinking bleach to cure covid.

Trump should know. He is stupid and he hired advisors even dumber than he is. And yea – they were on a mission to destroy America.

is the ‘america’ being destroyed defined anywhere….?

      i recall steppenewolf’s monster:

      America where are you now?
Don’t you care about your sons and daughters?
Don’t you know we need you now
We can’t fight alone against the monster

      1969 was a great year!

      would trump ruining that amercia?

“Trump made the remarks during a CNN town hall during which he defended his supporters who staged a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in January 2021 and mocked the writer E. Jean Carroll a day after a jury found him liable for sexually abusing and defaming her.”

As I said – I’m glad I skipped this pathetic excuse for a town hall. It seems CNN invited a lot of those stupid people Trump was talking about.

    Menzie Chinn,
You’re as big a sucker as CNN – you both swoon over Tump’s soundbites in an effort to bring attention to yourself.

You did neglect the very next portion of the default conversation with the real money quotes:
COLLINS: You once said that using the — that using the debt ceiling as a negotiating wedge just could not happen. You — you said that when you were in the Oval Office.
TRUMP: Sure, that’s when I was president.
COLLINS: So why is it different now that you’re out of office?
TRUMP: Because now I’m not president.

The showman will ensure that the show must go on (of course with a little help from the ‘media’)!!!

Are you lobbying to be Trump’s economic adviser?

Now I get that Trump’s appearance was a big waste of time and so was this pathetic little comment.

Poor Eeek!, doesn’t even realize he’s doing what he accuses Menzie of doing – trying to draw attention to himself. And the way he does it is pretty pathetic. Eeek! pretends to see into Menzie’s mind. Swoon? Draw attention to himself?

This is an economics and policy blog. The debt ceiling is an economic policy issue. Trump was once presided is trying to become president again. Poor, broken little Eeek! can’t see past his own bitterness.

        MacroQuack,
And what exactly are you quacking about? Quack! Let’s see, you’re so incredibly oblivious of the fact that here you are as a skillet who is claiming a pot is calling a kettle black. Quack!

        1. pgl

YOU are complaining that someone is quacking? Damn dude – have a little self awareness.

It is just “one more thing he doesn’t know very much about,” Dimon told Bloomberg Television, in discussing trump’s comments.

  5. Not Trampis

No republicans only worry about deficits and debt when there is a democratic president. They never worry about it when there is a republican president. nothing occurred when the deficit ballooned under trump

Ben y, just another successful Biden/liberal policy, I also guess. We could also include misnaming laws as another false flag policy enactment. Y’ano like $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Bill, which includes major funding for grid destabilizing energy policy.

Liberals’ failure to recognize their policy failures is an amazement.

Well, that clinches it. The only way to keep Republicans from trashing the economy over the debt limit is to re-elect Trump.

I was just wondering if Menzie meant to say “Can’t disagree with either the second or third sentence”. But then I suppose you could argue many of the native born Americans working at destroying America are very intelligent people who also happen to be amoral??

      1. Moses Herzog

Hahahaha!!! I mean I’m half joking and half serious. Mostly serious I guess. You have to sardonically laugh at the dark reality of it all or else you’ll cry.

Thanks. I noticed that too but by now I have had it up to here with Trump’s bloviating. Did he really keep that BS up for over 70 minutes? Glad I watched the NBA playoffs instead.
