You should be thanking Elon Musk. He is the one who started the attack on the continuing resolution with a barrage of over 100 tweets on Wednesday, many making false claims about items in the bill. Musk included threats to primary any Republicans voting for the resolution. Trump didn’t chime in until 11 hours later. It’s Musk who is in charge now.

    Among Musk’s lies:

Congress was giving themselves a 40% pay raise — lie.
The bill was funding bioweapons labs — lie.
The bill was giving DC $3 billion for a baseball stadium — lie.
The bill allocated $60 billion for Ukraine — lie.
The bill included mask and vaccine mandates — lie.
The bill gives blanket immunity to Liz Cheney — lie.

In my experience, retired since 2019 one continuing resolution I recall set spending during the CR period to be limited to the immediate prior fiscal year.

Adding things is asking for clsoure!

So after trashing the bipartisan agreement, the Republicans went off in a corner and wrote their own bill to Musk’s specifications — and of course it failed 174 to 235 with 38 Republicans voting against their own bill.

    So here is Musk:
“A fair and simple bill was put to a vote and only 2 Democrats were in favor. Therefore responsibility for the shutdown rest squarely on the shoulders of [minority leader] Jeffries.”

And some people think Musk is a genius. He can’t even count.

The political malpractice is astounding even for Trump and his clown parade.

They allowed Johnson and his folks to make a deal – then only after the deal is sealed, do they voice opposition. Literally setting him up to lose control of the house GOP without a chance in hell of getting anything out of that. Great way to start the next two years of “we can only lose 3 members, or it goes down in flames” GOP legislative majority. Pulling out of a deal that was already agreed upon, also makes it a lot harder to blame the democrats for the shut down. What exactly was their plan B? How are they going to get out of this shutdown before or after January 20’th? This was a loss of 38 GOP votes in a house where they presumably have the power. Their biggest intimidation weapon (Musk will primary you into oblivion), has already been fired and proven impotent. What are they now going to use to corral the GOP cats into submission?

Inside Trumps “Chaos Administration” they are already pushing the blame for this idiocy, away from the Orange Boss and onto Musk (who most of them dislike). Not sure how long he will last, but I would be shocked if he is still around a year from now.

When does the corporate media report that Bidenomics (and Dem admins policies for the past 50 years) worked? GDP growth of 3.1% annualized rate, low unemployment, wages growing faster than inflation and policies that delivered infrastructure, manufacturing jobs, more powerful unions, investments into dealing with climate change – instead constant shouting about “My Piggly Wiggly bill is too high!”
So once again – we will get govt run by the chaos agent billionaires – cut regulations! cut healthcare! give tax cuts to the 1% and culture war policies – ban abortion and birth control, ban books, ban LGBTQ, deport workers. (leaving out the anti-science slant to all the MAGA policies – debunked anti-vaccine rhetoric and climate change is a hoax – still being repeated by GOP leaders.)
I predict slower GDP, greater wealth inequality, a spike in some asset class (Buy Bitcoin now! and stock buybacks), incompetence and corruption in the admin of federal governance leading to a cut in services for most vulnerable – older adults, individuals with disabilities, people of color, women – especially lower income women. (and hey!? why is my Piggly Wiggly bill still high?? – but Trump/Fox News tells me I’m doing great.)
Look at the data from Reagan tax cuts, George W Bush tax cuts, Trump 1 tax cuts

I anticipate a shutdown. And I think the government stays shut down until the new Congress is seated.

Now here’s the thing. Is there a package that can be passed purely with Republican votes? The answer appears to be ‘no’. Therefore, come late January, matters will stand where they are now. And the Democratic wish list will be even greater and include provisions like transgender and illegal immigrant funding with the specific intent to humiliate Trump. And then what do Republicans do? Swap out Mike Johnson in the middle of a shutdown crisis? What would that achieve?

I think Trump had better start counting votes in the House.

Today Musk tweets: “Only the AfD can save Germany.”

He’s not even pretending anymore. He’s gone full on Neo-Nazi.

You can take the man out of South Africa but you can’t take the Afrikaner out of the man.
