Off topic – The kidnapping of Maduro and the felon-in-chief’s chest thumping in Iran’s direction has fired the imaginations of the usual neocons. There’s a growing chorus of “let’s have another Iran attack”:
The New York Post is also giddy about the prospect of U.S. intervention Iran. I won’t link to it because it launches a video that Menzie shouldn’t have to watch.
The felon apparently thought it would be very MAGA to make the Maduro kidnapping a birthday celebration for the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, and that has really heightened speculation about hitting Iran among the base.
My poor old heads spins after the past weekends events. Trump delivers quite the kick in the teeth for modern people. His mind seems to inhabit the late 19th century in many other regards too. He can’t accept women as equals, flouts the law through privileged (do as I say), promotes illiteracy (competency by proxy), and has few if any skills in modern business. I am but an observer, no participant can I be. Can the repossesed cars, declining GDP, and tariff missteps trip him up soon enough?
The first hit on Iran was a spectacular failure. We may have damaged a handful of centrifuges. But Iran will not put that forth since it is as much in their interest as Trumps to not show what an idiotic failure it was. Trump is not a real president (with policy goals and vision of a future decades from now) – he just plays one on TV. Our enemies have figures that out and know how to play him.
Our occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq were costly failures. That was back when local resistance forced just had simple roadside IEDs. Now our occupation forces would face remote activated drone swarms flying at them from all sides with about 10 second notice. We are talking months, not years, before a spectacular and humiliating defeat and “get the heck out of there” retreat.

in the modern world, dictators last a long time unless somebody of character and great power exists in the world.
