The U,S, farm economy is not doing well – it never does well under Trump – but now – no markets and increased fuel/fertilizer costs are making the situation pretty grim: “Farmers, who make up one of the Republican Party’s most loyal voting blocs, have been struggling as consistently high input costs thin their margins. The number of farms in the United States fell by almost 150,000 in the last five years, and total farmland area was reduced by more than 21 million acres nationally. The development suggests smaller farms are consolidating or being absorbed into bigger ones.” https://www.politico.com/newsletters/weekly-agriculture/2026/03/30/farm-bankruptcies-climb-00849786#:~:text=The%20number%20of%20farms%20in,in%20an%20interview%20with%20POLITICO.
baffling
this morning, oil is up, stock markets are up, and bond yields are down (ie bond prices are up). this does not seem rational. commodities, equities and bonds have all increased in value at the same time during a war?

Lol, come back the next day. This post….

I have a partial explanation, one which works for stocks and bonds:
Check September pricing for the funds rate between yesterday and today. Odds of a hike have fallen. That’s probably because Powell repeated his line about “looking past” oil prices so that a rate hike for now seems unnecessary.
Oil prices are a war thing, linked to stocks and bonds, but not sensitive to Fed rates just now.

Apparently the market got your message – US equities broadly closed down while bond yields were up (strongly so)

Baffling: “i did ask joseph for a credible solution to the slaughter in iran, that eliminates the indiscriminate slaughter without harming another soul. he has not provided an answer.”
And once again Baffling takes the side of Trump and Hegseth and tries to justify his war in Iran and the killing of innocent civilians. He disapproves of the Iranian government killing civilians and his answer is to have the US do it instead.
“Indiscriminate slaughter” — that’s what you call bombing a elementary school and killing 165 children. Civilian casualties are now in the tens of thousands. Can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, eh?
“We had to destroy the village in order to save it.”
baffling
once again, joseph, you have avoided answering the question. probably because you actually have an agenda to promote, rather than deal with reality.
civilian casualties are not in the tens of thousands, joseph. you are not being honest, again. but why if 165 school children are killed (and that is a bad thing, just to be clear since you seem to be dense in this respect), you go on a rant against the us government. but when tens of thousands of iranians are slaughtered by the iranian government, you seem to have absolutely no concern. same thing with putin’s slaughter in ukraine. hundreds of thousands. you only seem to have an issue with the us government. it does not appear that peace is your interest, it is the criticism of the us government that you focus on. agenda.
