Related topic – Any chance Israel is using assassination to keep the U.S. engaged in the war on Iran?

Two of the Iranian leaders assassinated so far during the war, Larijani and Khatib, have been moderates, by Iranian lights. Maybe their assassination is just a reflection of their high positions and vulnerability, but maybe not. What could it mean if their killings were systematic and intentional?

Much of the talk in the U.S. now is about what a bad decision it was to start this war, how poorly thought out the decision was and how little justification there was for war. That’s less true in Israel; public support for the war is much higher than in the U.S. From Netanyahu’s point of view, it is not domestic support, but rather delaying the end of U.S. action against Iran that is a problem. By killing of moderate Iranian leaders and by stoking outrage among those who survive, Israel maybe attempting to prevent a negotiated end to hostilities. If the felon-in-chief wants an off-ramp, but Tehran doesn’t provide one, U.S. bombing continues.

    Just a thought.
