It’s the commonest thing in the world for executives to pick underlings who make them comfortable. Clinton, for instance, picked people like Madeleine Albright and Leon Panetta. Obama chose people like Steven Chu and Joe Biden. Expertise and competence made them comfortable. The felon-in-chief got rid of Janet Yellen because she didn’t look like a central banker and hired Whiskey Pete because he’d been on faux news and talks a lot about lethality.
Heck, Schroyer is easily as well qualified as Whiskey Pete.

Looks like polling for Senate races in Kansas and Iowa are shifting toward Democratic wins. Iowa has been acknowledged as a toss-up, but Kansas was considered to lean Republican in standard election handicapping:

They’re both farm states. High fuel and fertilizer prices make it hard to deal with higher borrowing costs. Vance has just told a bunch of Republican candidates to acknowledge the problems people face…and to blame Democrats. I guess that’s better than telling voters their problems aren’t so bad and then blaming Drmocrats.
