Without having digested any of the above I wanna Thank Professor Chinn for putting this up. I don’t care what the main topic of any person’s blog is. These are important times, and these are crucial things to know. If you are a citizen of this nation and care about its future these things have to be dispersed and made known. And NO, “MSM and major news sources already cover this” is NOT a good excuse for acting like nothing extremely dangerous is happening right now.

CIA operative, is a mole in the White House. Does it get any more dangerous to the western democracies than that?

That operative gathers elements of information and extracts others’ dismay. Not just observe but warm up the spin.

The standard I use is 2016. In 2016 the democrats used a dossier filled with disinformation from a forgn source. The content was subsequently prove erroneous, but the warrant was certifies and the FISA permitted the DNC to surveil the Trump campaign.

Telling the president of a corrupt regime, installed in a 2014 coup with CIA and US State Dept operative locally supporting, to get to the bottom of a US citizen’s employment with oligarchs who profit from the coup is what should be done before US helps any potential client,

Does not rise to using the CIA and FBI as spies on Trump campaign.

      1. pgl

Lord you are a pathetic troll. The CIA employee was not spying on the White House. He or she was invited to work for the White House. Hey ilsm – your boy (Trump) is a traitor. And if you defend his treason – you are too.

        1. Moses Herzog

NO disrespect to Menzie—but Menzie better get himself a CAT scan at the hospital if he truly believes this guy is ex-Air Force. I mean I don’t disagree with Menzie very often—but there, I said it. No one in their right mind believes this Son-Of-a-B__ is ex-AirForce. Sorry.

      2. pgl

“The standard I use is 2016. In 2016 the democrats used a dossier filled with disinformation from a forgn source.”

This Trumpian lie? We have a new category – Traitors for Trump. And you are the head of this organization!

        ilsm,

You have been watching too much Hannity et al again. Are you aware that something on the order of 78% of the Steele dossier has been verified? The main items in it that have been disproven are the claims that Michael Cohen was in Prague in Aug. 2016 and that Carter Page was offered massive amounts of stock in Rosneft. Among the items that have never been verified nor disproven is the silly bit about Trump and a peeing show, about which so much huffing and puffing has been done. But, this is really an irrelevant sideshow at this point. I mean really, ilsm, the man was paying off prostitutes not to talk about his activities, which was covered up and since learned, and his most fervent followers do not care. So why should anybody care at all now about this supposed peeing incident? It is quite believable given the rest of Trump’s behavior, but does not matter at all by now.

In any case, getting all wanked about it and how the information was obtained, is really silly. After all, much more important and not in it is that Trump has long planned a tower in Moscow, which along with his being in hock to lots of Russian oligarchs, which is what is probably in those tax returns he has fought so hard to conceal, is much more important for why he would side with Russian over Ukraine, which is a deeper part of why he is now facing impeachment hearings, than any silly pee tape or not.

        1. CoRev

The 2016 election set a new standard for ethics and foreign involvement in elections. To deny that is to show failure in personal ethics.

Can anyone succinctly write down the complaint against Trump in this latest attempt to smear? If it’s ethical it must be measured against the 2016 Democrat activities. If it is legal it must be identified by Federal Code. If it is shown illegal then it must also be compared to Biden’s actions.

If it is neither, then an actual complaint must be identified and the matter to which it is measured.

The real question is after this phenomenon has passed, who will the Dems run against him?

What appears to be the complaint is that Dems don’t want any President to be able to negotiate with other leaders. Because nearly al of those negotiations will include some offer with conditions, and those can be and are being interpreted as a quid pro quo.

Please, just define what Trump did.

          1. baffling

trump used his position as president of the united states, and the leverage of the nations military and financial resources, to sway a foreign nation to investigate a political opponent of trump. the purpose of this interaction was not to strengthen the nation, but to strengthen trump’s political position. if obama had placed that phone call, would you have still considered it unimportant? to top it all off, there was an organized coverup, including the abuse of security documents. corev, you are on the wrong side of history with your support of trumps actions here.

          2. CoRev

Baffled, if that’s all you folks have as a case, it is more than weak. Obama did exactly the same thing with the same country to investigate Manafort. Since obama did the same thing, do you still consider it so important? See why we say it must be evaluated in light of the Dem actions in the 2016 elections

          3. baffling

corev, there is no indication that either VP Biden or his son conducted any illegal or unethical behavior. none. that was not the case with manafort. in fact, he is in prison as a result of his actions. if you were to get out of your echo chamber you would understand the distinction. manafort was guilty of an action. trump is guilty of fabricating issues against biden-big difference.

and i will add one further item. the investigation currently underway should have absolutely no bearing on what investigations somebody else did in the past. trump’s impeachment has absolutely no bearing on what obama did or did not do. it is time for trumpsters to accept responsibility for their own actions, instead of blaming others in time of need.

This isn’t a complaint in any way, shape, or form, but rather a request: If anyone knows how I can get a FREE .mp3 audio file of Miss Maarleveld’s masterful reading of this masterfully written complaint, can you please pass that on in this comment thread and “do a Bro a solid”?? Thanks ahead of time.

    1. Moses Herzog

—the reason being I wanna put it on my notepad style computer, to carry and share and review—which I rarely connect to the internet. Again, thanks. It will help if it’s Android friendly which I think ALL .mp3 files are.

Zelensky: “We are almost ready to buy more Javelins from the United States for defense purposes.”
Trump: “We would like you to do us a favor though.”

That’s really all you need to know. It’s the Godfather doing a standard mafia shake down. Art of the Deal, indeed.

      1. noneconomist

Far less corrupt? Meaning it is corrupt. But in your opinion LESS so than other—i.e., European, Asian– corruption.
Trump’s corrupt. But he’s our corrupter.
That’s some powerful thinkin’, ilsm. Probably just what the Founding Fathers had in mind.

    1. CoRev

Joseph, another example is: Obama offered Tehran billions of dollars in sanctions relief and actual cash delivered in exchange for agreeing to curb its nuclear program.

So, if in the negotiations, Tehran said we are almost ready to sign the the JCPOA, if you do Iran a little favor of lowering the sanctions by billions of dollars and release the Iranian cash being detained in US banks, that’s a standard mafia shake down? Did Obama get shaken down?

        1. CoRev

Since there were legal issue associated with Biden, are they supposed to be ignored just because he was an announced candidate for President? Again, Obama did the same thing in 2016, why is one act different than the other?

Some how after the many attempts to prove something on Trump or his associates in the past three years, this attempt seems to be the weakest.

          1. baffling

“Since there were legal issue associated with Biden”
there were none. this is where your echo chamber hurts you, as you somehow mistake lies for truth when repeated enough. your original premise is false. deal with it.

on the other hand, trump is on record shaking down the ukrainian government for his own personal and political gain. on the record. and then he covered it up. this is nixon on steroids. i know you admire tricky dick, but it does not change the fact tricky dick was rotten. and trump has him beat!

This is what southern Evangelical Christians have decided they’d like as an example to their own children:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulZlNH9aIpA

An orange leathery disgusting creature, who is a traitor to his own country, and is willing to sell European theater security down the drain to dig up dirt on his opponents that doesn’t even exist. If this country loses its standing in the world—and we are well on our way to that place with cowardly Moscow Mitch hiding in a congressional broom closet. we’re going to look back on these days and wonder how there weren’t mass protests in every major city.

Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham “& Friends”, you know what leader you remind me of in your attitude towards your own countrymen?? Mussolini

  5. pgl

We need a new term for the Trump sycophants – Dumba$$es for DONALD. After all – this is all “hear say” as the whistle blower did not personally observe all of this. Hey wait – the Mueller report was also “hear say”. NO COLLUSION.

And yes he was a “spy” as he worked for the CIA. MAGA!

    1. ilsm

Situation morality! If you trust a CIA hold over you are the problem.

Assange and Snowden delivered truth how come they are in trouble?

The politics is the answer, they embarrassed the US during Obama and Clinton activities.

        1. noneconomist

But ilsm is ok since he believes one can be “less corrupt.” Like Trump. And be A-OK. It’s both humorous and sad. And more than a little pathetic.

  6. spencer

Please note that what the White House released is not a plain transcript.

Rather, it is a “reconstructed transcript”‘.

Does that imply that something important was left out?

    1. pgl

Good point. We need the recording of this discussion and all those other discussions that they inappropriately put on that top secret computer. It turns out BTW that the Whistle Blower first went to the general counsel of the CIA who refused to do a damn thing about it. A lot of people have a lot of questions to answer. Time for heads to roll.

      1. Moses Herzog

If I’m not screwing up my agency abbreviations, I think it is NSA that is actually mainly responsible for those recordings. That doesn’t mean CIA doesn’t also have some responsibility and accountability there, just saying NSA I would think needs to answer for itself on how the digital recordings or transcripts are logged etc.

I think a pretty strong argument could be made that donald trump manipulating the NSA might even be more dangerous than him trying to bully/control the CIA.

    2. baffling

we do not know if something “important” was left out. but we do know that this is not the entire conversation, verbatim. which is why it is described as a “rough” transcript. after a court fight, the original will come out. it will not be pretty when that occurs. mostly due to trumps ability to strangle the english language into turd balls.

  7. Barkley Rosser

For what it is worth, I just checked Daily Kos a few minutes ago, and their running poll has returned to their longstanding 45% in favor of impeachment to 48% opposed from the 49% opposed that it went to a few days ago. Yesterday may have moved the needle back a bit.

I also checked and Nate Silver reports on six polls since the news began to break, with all of them showing an “uptick” in support for impeachment, although it remains under 50% supporting it as of now.

Could be better, could be worse. But the Hannity crowd will continue to double down on their lies, which will be nearly impossible to break through to the Trump True Believers.

    1. baffling

just like in the election, i am not worried about the true believers. they are not the majority, and their minds will never be changed. what you need to focus on is the middle ground folks. and pray they are open to objectively assessing the information before rushing to judgement. that is the best you can hope for.

      1. Barkley Rosser

The polls have seriously shifted. What was 455 for impeachment to 48% against at Daily Kos has since shifted to 49% for to 45% against. This is still below 50% for, but now it is more for impeachment than against and may well shift further. If this keeps moving that way, the politics in the Senate on this could get quite different.

And, again to ilsm, the Steele dossier is simply of no importance. Most of the important stuff in it is either verified or disproven.

    2. ilsm

I am in favor of impeachment, too much ‘stuff’ is suppressed in the main stream.

The inquiry will have to address the dossier etc. And go deep in to administration acts as the 2014 coup unfolded. Which is going to get in to some embarrassing observations.

Hunter Biden’s qualifications and job description as well as other candidates for the plum he got in Ukraine will be displayed. It was not Houston and dad did not run the bug oil company.

I observe that this “whistleblower” is treated much better than any I have seen!

      It is all politics.

    3. Willie

It is a free country. People are allowed to happily swallow whatever BS they choose to swallow. The MAGA types will look extremely foolish and destructive to the nation when historians look at this era. But they are allowed to be morons. What they should realize is that the abuses Trump gets away with will be a template for future abuses. By the other tribe! Oh no! Then what? Orwell predicted Fox News and the droolers who actually believe that drivel.

  8. pgl

    This is beyond disturbing

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/cia-whistleblower-complaint-trump-ukraine-zelensky

The intelligence community whistleblower, identified as a CIA officer by the New York Times, initially took his allegations to the agency’s general counsel, only deciding to lodge his now-famous complaint when he realized that the general counsel had alerted the White House. According to the Times, when the CIA officer went to general counsel Courtney Elwood shortly after President Donald Trump’s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, she looped in officials at the White House and and Department of Justice (including Attorney General William Barr). Though Elwood’s actions are in keeping with policy, they underscore how exposed the CIA officer was without whistleblower protections and a White House at the very least aware of his allegations, if not his identity. The CIA officer grew concerned that his allegations were not being taken seriously, so he lodged a formal complaint with the IG as well, becoming a full-blown whistleblower.

    1. spencer

Just something to keep in mind, CIA officers are exempt” employees.

They do not have the standard job protection of other federal employees
and can be fired very easily.

      1. pgl

Something tells me that this Whistle Blower’s #1 concern is no longer job security but not being killed by some MAGA hat wearing nutcase. Trump is fanning the flames to intimidate him as well as any one else that might rat out the Don.

  9. joseph

Spencer: “Does that imply that something important was left out?”

It was a 30 minute phone call. The memo released covered at best 10 minutes, so there is a lot left out.

It’s also possible that there is a recording. They rely on speech recognition instead of handwritten notes, at least for the first draft these days.

  10. noneconomist

Looks like the only way Zelensky was going to get the aid was to promise he would use those weapons to withstand an invasion from the Bidens. The best way to do that is to ally with our close confidant, President Putin and fight the Bidens in the streets of Kiev. Otherwise, we’ll have American boys fighting them in Pensacola.

  11. joseph

It’s nice that White House lawyers have already sorted through all of Trumps phone calls and put the ones containing crimes in a single convenient location for House investigators. Should save them a lot of time.

    1. pgl

Ah but we need to make sure there are no 18 minute gaps. I would not put it past Trump to destroy all of the evidence.

  12. Moses Herzog

I just now noticed getting online that there is a download button in the upper right of the Soundcloud video of Menzie’s post, so there is a .mp3 file that can be saved for offline—-not sure if that was already there yesterday and I missed it, either way I appreciate the download being there. THANKS

  13. Moses Herzog

One of about a zillion little sub-plots to all this.

NYT: “White House Knew of Whistle-Blower’s Allegations Soon After Trump’s Call With Ukraine Leader,” by Julian Barnes, Mike Schmidt, Adam Goldman and Katie Benner: “The White House learned that a C.I.A. officer had lodged allegations against President Trump’s dealings with Ukraine even as the officer’s whistle-blower complaint was moving through a process meant to protect him against reprisals, people familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

“The officer first shared information about potential abuse of power and a White House cover-up with the C.I.A.’s top lawyer through an anonymous process, some of the people said. The lawyer shared the officer’s concerns with White House and Justice Department officials, following policy. Around the same time, the officer separately filed the whistle-blower complaint.”

It’s also interesting to note the Justice Department was given a “head up” on this complaint from multiple sources almost immediately after it was made. That’s rather “convenient” when the man controlling the cover up of the phone call was William Barr. Also, notice how Giuliani is not being defended much by the White House in the last 2–3 days, and he has been cat-fighting with Pompeo. The cat-fighting between Pompeo and Giuliani and donald trump suddenly having an inability to pronounce Giuliani’s name in the last 2–3 days could tell us A LOT about White House strategy and the legal path they are taking on all this. It’s no longer useful for donald trump to have Giuliani on the team—and Giuliani is now put in Michael Cohen’s punishment box—the same as all donald trump “friends”.

  14. joseph

So today Wayne LaPierre of the NRA went to the White House and promised to contribute to Trump’s impeachment defense if Trump would “stop the games” over gun control legislation.

A little quid pro quo to help Trump out with his quid pro quo problem.

These guys aren’t very smart, are they. They just can’t give up the criming.

      1. Moses Herzog

My theory is LaPierre and Lindsey Graham were just getting straight and corroborating their story on how great trump’s golf score is.

        1. 2slugbaits

Lindsey Graham is following the Rudy Giuliani path of an old man descending into dementia (and alarming weight gain!).

  15. joseph

Speaking of Trump’s secret repository for records of his crimes, the first new release has just leaked out.

Trump told Russian officials in his 2017 oval meeting that he wasn’t concerned about their 2016 election interference because the US does it as well. It prompted a lockdown of documents describing call.

Russians attack US elections and Trump tells them no big deal. After all, they helped him get elected. Trump betrays his country to a foreign enemy for his own benefit. And White House lawyers covered it up, hiding the evidence.

Forget impeachment. Can we talk treason now?

    1. pgl

All good points but we already knew that Trump did not mind Russian meddling in our elections. It is all in the Mueller report. As Lindsey Graham might say “nothing new here”. Of course what was old news represents an impeachable offense in most people’s minds. But to Lindsey – as long as Trump did not get a blow job from a 22 year old chick, it is all “perfect”.

      1. Barkley Rosser

Graham is not bothered by Trump sex activities. If he were he would have dumped Trump when the all that Stormy Daniels stuff came out, not to mention the “grab ’em by the pussy” tapes. The fact is that as long as GOP voters in SC stay with Trump, so will Graham. It is that simple.

        1. pgl

Stormy Daniels has spoken about her one night stand with the DONALD. And it was rather sad and grotesque. It is almost like the DONALD could truthfully declare “I did not have … very good … sex with that woman”. I guess Melanie stays simply for the money.

        1. pgl

Did you see where RUDY has declared himself to be the real whistleblower exposing all that Biden corruption in Ukraine? I see the next SNL skit – RUDY and Sekulow trying to out shout each other with their nonsense!

      1. Moses Herzog

The word amoral should have Jay Sekulow’s picture beside it in Merriam Webster. But then we could include a lot of those in donald trump’s social sphere.

    1. Moses Herzog

Don McGahn is another lawyer donald trump tried to manipulate into being a shield for illegal activity. McGahn was willing to take donald trump’s money, but not willing to get himself TOO messy in the process. McGahn is a walking piece of crap similar to the other lawyers who break bread with donald trump, he just happened to decide it wasn’t worth the ensuing trouble.
