What’s tracked in the figure is personal income less transfers. That gets closer to the income dynamics of private activity, but misses big swings in transfers, which have direct effect on demand. Today, the first day of March, yet another Covid-related transfer program aimed at reducing poverty expired. SNAP benefits have been cut.
