When I read this, I’m reminded:
In 2015, during the Obama administration, a new safety rule was adopted requiring electronically controlled pneumatic brakes to be installed on all high-hazard flammable unit trains by 2023, allowing them to brake faster. Trump rescinded that requirement three years later.
And then (2023):

And in 2018, Trump disbands the NSC Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense. What did we get in 2020?

Total deaths from Covid by August 8, 2020 = 203,447.
on this website, our pseudoscientist rick stryker tried to claim that covid was not a problem and not really transmissible. he was estimating that a few hundred people may die from covid, and that we should not worry about the virus. it goes to show that you should not let technically and mathematically inept folks, like rick stryker, dabble in science. their mistakes and ignorance are glaring.
Yes indeed – competence matters.
You break it, you own it.
Glib, but not useful. What do we do about it?
Trump and Elon are running the show for now. That is what I meant. The public elected Trump and Trump appointed Elon. That’s where things stand. Now we have yet another airline accident, in Toronto. But it doesn’t feel like it’s the last, does it?
Elon Musk today: “One of the first things Hitler did upon gaining power was to apply aggressive censorship.”
Elon Musk four hours later: “60 Minutes are the biggest liars in the world! They engaged in deliberate deception to interfere in the last election. They deserve a long prison sentence.”
He’s using Mein Kampf as an instruction manual.
Musk is the most dangerous person on the planet right now — even more dangerous than Trump.
Do not tear down a fence just because you don’t understand why it’s there. Understand why it’s there before you decide.
Of course, that ignores half of the felon-in-chief’s governing philosophy – not just smash, but smash and grab. He has little patience for any part of government that he can’t somehow grab for himself.
Except tariffs and prejudice, of course. Tariffs and prejudice are important in themselves – no need for profit.
How far can we diverge from the government we know before the public objects?
“Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history.”

We’ll see, Mr. President. We’ll see.
Big Egg News – the federal government is rolling out a new plan to contain bird flu. Covid all over again?:
https://www.agweb.com/news/livestock/poultry/trump-administration-shifts-strategy-avian-flu
Mass culling is out. Physical containment is in. Vaccination us a step closer.
This looks like an approach which takes care of a short-term problem, while running greater risks in the medium and long term. That is to say, this looks like Trump’s Covid response all over again.
Part of the Ag News story is a repetition of the oldest political trick in the world – minions of the epidemic-enabler-in-chief claim that Biden’s approach failed, so they have carte blanche to do something else. Should that something else fail, expect to hear that it’s Biden’s fault.
This is probably one of the most dangerous approaches these morons could come up with. They clearly have no idea of what kind of fire they are playing with. Unfortunately these arrogant idiots don’t seem interested in talking with people who are experts.
The reason nobody with any level of expertise in virology, immunology and genetics would suggest this, is that it could allow/promote a very dangerous genetic drift.
The proposed approaches are absolutely not appropriate for viruses that have been drifting towards human-to-human transmission with 50% mortality rates. You do not want this virus to have any more contact with humans than absolutely unavoidable. Nor do you want it to grow, expand and have opportunities to mutate and do recombinations with other highly infectious flue strains (in farmworkers taking care of animals held in “containment”). At the current level of threat to human health its not even a close call – you have to follow closely, kill and disinfect.
Stock up on your N95 masks now.
Competence matters and Trump seems to repel it because it hurts his little fragile ego whenever someone knows more than him.
Looks like last week’s House budget deal has fallen apart, now that Members realize what’s in it:

Continuing resolution, anyone?
May be of interest to Dr. Chinn: Elon Musk is buying $670,000 of TV ads in Wisconsin to back right winger Brad Schimel for the state supreme court. This is in addition to any other unknown millions Musk is spending on this campaign. Democrats currently hold a one seat majority.
This is another reason that Musk in the most dangerous person on the planet. He has unlimited millions to spend on campaigns. He is doing it in the U.S. but also around the world in Germany, Italy and the UK. He has used his millions to threaten any Republican senator who would vote against Trump’s nominees.
Trump recently revoked enforcement of the law on U.S. corporations bribing foreign officials — which just happened to coincide with Elon Musk meeting with Prime Minister Modi. There’s no limit to what Musk can do with his billions.
Elon Musk claims there are tens of millions of deceased people collecting fraudulent Social Security benefits.
There are a total of 67 million currently receiving benefits. Does tens of millions of them being deceased even pass the sanity test?
We have a US Census. Are they in on the fraud as well? The census tells us there at least 70 million living people of eligible age for social security and then another 6 million on disability. 67 million of those 76 million are receiving benefits. Where do you get tens of millions of deceased people out of that? Why do people keep saying that Musk it high IQ? I see no evidence of it. He seems to be exceedingly dull-witted, unable to make even the simplest sanity checks on his numbers.
Never believe a word out of Musk’s mouth. Every word is a lie.
You realize that the plane crashed in Canada, ay? The plane was operated by Endeavor which is a subsidiary of Delta. Endeavor has bragged about its all female crews and so far not much if any information about the crew that was flying the plane that crashed in Canada (where US FAA controllers were completely absent from work because of Trump’s subsequent firings).
https://tribune.com.pk/story/2529602/delta-upside-down-plane-crash-allegedly-involved-all-female-crew
Not attempting to conflatie an all-female crew, no US FAA certified controller, and the plane crashing… just like this post isn’t attempting to conflate all of that with subsequent Trump firings. Just sayin’….
