Off topic – we really are aiming at violent regime change in Venezuela:

    https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/nation/venezuela-floated-a-plan-for-maduro-to-slowly-give-up-power-but-was-rejected-by-us-ap-source-says/

The gradual departure of Venezuelan President Maduro and his people would allow them to loot whatever is left while avoiding bloodshed. Instead, the U.S. is encouraging a coup by offering a $50 million bounty for Maduro. We also have 10,000 troops in the region (a region that includes Puerto Rico, so not necessarily all that close to Venezuela).

The felon-in-chief has said he’s considering “land operations”. Whatever that means, it would involve acts of war.

Just to repeat myself, Venezuela’s oil reserves will be up for grabs if Maduro’s government falls, the very sort of opportunity that the felon and his hangers on could profit from. The rest of Venezuela’s productive assets would also be up for grabs.

This is not what Colin Powell meant with his “you break it, you own it” regime-change rule. The rotten consequences of the second Iraq war should be a major concern for anyone considering regime change, but my guess is, the only focus is getting money out of the deal.

seems to me, the usa is encouraging political violence in foreign nations. there is a reason that powerful nations have not openly advocated for open assassination of international foes. it seems that is where we have done recently, making governing more dangerous than ever in democracies-especially poorly run ones.

republicans continue to keep the government closed by refusing to do their job. it is simple, do the right thing. Obamacare subsidies need to be renewed. the government needs to be reopened. why do these items need to be negotiated? why should democrats give something to republicans in order for republicans to do the right thing. why is that such a hard concept for trump and maga to comprehend?
the shutdown easily ends if trump and Johnson want it to. it is clear they are not interested in ending the shutdown yet.

A narrowly-divided House and a nareowly-divided Senate mean that if Congress is to he a truly representative legislative body, there must be compromise. Bearly half the public is denied a voice in the making of laws if the small majority refuses to compromise with the large minority. Republicans, particularly Republican leaders, are determined to deny the public a voice.
