Federal Budget, Economic Report of the President, 2026 Coming Out April 3

According to Politico, if you were wondering when the budget was coming out. The budget should have come out February 2nd.

The Economic Report of the President is to be transmitted within 10 days of the budget. We’ll see.

I’m pretty sure the Economic Forecast will be more OBE than typically the case. A comparison of the Mid-Session Review forecast vs. CBO, SPF is here.

    Meanwhile…

Y’all know Rahm Emanuel is running for President, right? He is very much of the “don’t think about what’s right, just stay close to the Republicans” school of politics that has ceded so much ground to the right.

Emanuel is vocal about ignoring social issues and focusing on middle-class economic concerns:

This is, of course, a false dichotomy. Presidential campaigns cover the waterfront in terms of issues; every successful presidential candidate in my lifetime has addressed social, economic, international, defense, environmental and educational issues. Emanuel is misleading his audience, and he is certainly aware of it.

Emanuel names Kennedy, Clinton and Obama as the Democratic presidents to emulate, leaving Johnson, Carter and Biden off the list. You get the point; Johnson, Carter and Biden were single-term presidents. They also stood for something, though some of what Johnson stood for was a horrible mistake. Much of the agenda for which Reagan is praised originated with Carter, while the inflation that sank Carter originated with Johnson and Nixon. Biden championed renewable energy, income support during recession, anti-trust action and labor. These are the presidential models Emanuel rejects.

The Iran War is dividing Republicans. Progressive ideas are dividing Democrats. Emanuel is going to slander progressivism during the coming presidential campaign, and he won’t be alone. Seems a good way to lose the future and to help Republicans sidestep the worst consequences of their greed and cowardice.
