Trade War with Canada: Wisconsin Awaits Retaliation

Anybody familiar with the gravity model of trade would be unsurprised that Wisconsin (exports) a lot to Canada.

Figure 1: Wisconsin goods exports to world (black, right scale), Canada (blue, left scale), Mexico (red scale), mn.2017$. Nominal data deflated by BEA deflator. Light orange shading denotes Trump administrations. Source: Census via ITA, BEA via FRED, and author’s calculations.

Notice Wisconsin exports tend to go down during “orange” periods. Anyway, Wisconsin awaits retaliation. A hint of targets:

“steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, electronics.”

Gee, I think Wisconsin has some dairy production…(pretty sure there’s a John Deere factory i Horicon, too).

Thanks, Drumpf!

Well, while the great orange abomination and idiots in red MAGA hats wonder “Why should we care if thousands of Ukrainian men, women and children who are just innocent civilians existing in their own native land are murdered by Russia/Putin everyday??” life just goes on as normal. Or at least it “goes on as normal” if all you ever do is watch FOX News on the TV. The following from Olga Lautman:
“For the third day in a row, NATO continued its unannounced operations along the eastern flank, with the military again operating around Kaliningrad, Poland, the Baltic states, and stretching to Moldova.
And as NATO continued its show of force to warn Russia against attacking a NATO country, Moscow was yet again escalating.
Romania, a NATO country, had already dealt with a drone entering its airspace during Russia’s massive and deadly overnight attack on Ukraine when another one appeared just hours later. This time it was a maritime drone in the Black Sea, spotted just a few hundred meters from the Neptun Deep gas project. Romania scrambled two F-16s, and video captured the moment one of the jets opened fire and hit the drone, which officials later confirmed was carrying explosives.
The location is important because Neptun Deep is one of Europe’s largest new natural gas projects and is expected to make Romania the EU’s largest gas producer when it comes online. And this is not the first time Romania has dealt with a drone incursion this week. Just four days ago, another drone entered its airspace and was shot down by a Spanish F-18 conducting a NATO air policing mission.
Romanian President Nicușor Dan took to X to thank the Romanian Armed Forces and pilots for destroying the drone and blamed Russia for the incident. He condemned what he called an “intensification” of these incidents by Russia and said Romania would remain vigilant alongside its NATO allies to ‘repel such challenges.’ ”

But truhmp says NATO is useless. People paying actual attention know who/what is useless. A “leader” who can’t even be bothered to feed his own Navy men.
